ISRO Chairman S. Somanath Announces Successful PSLV-C60 Launch, Sets Sights On 2025 Missions
In a remarkable achievement for India’s space exploration, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched its PSLV-C60 rocket, carrying the highly anticipated SpaDeX mission along with 24 payloads.
The launch, which took place from Sriharikota, marks a new milestone in India’s space aspirations, bringing the nation closer to mastering the technology for space docking.
Successful Lift-Off and Orbit Insertion
ISRO Chairman, Dr. S. Somanath, announced the successful deployment of the SpaDeX mission, stating, “I am really happy to announce the successful accomplishment of the launch of PSLV-C60 for the SpaDeX mission. The rocket has placed the satellite in the correct 475 km circular orbit. That’s just one part of the mission.” This initial success sets the stage for the next phase: the demonstration of in-space docking.
The SpaDeX mission, a cost-effective technology demonstrator, is aimed at demonstrating the critical capabilities required for docking, undocking, and rendezvousing two small spacecraft in low-Earth orbit. Known for its innovative and indigenous “Bharatiya Docking System,” the mission is set to pave the way for future endeavors, including the Gaganyaan human spaceflight mission and the Bharatiya Antriksha Station.
Exciting Plans for 2025 and Beyond
Dr. Somanath also spoke about ISRO’s plans for 2025, which include several high-profile missions. He shared, “In 2025 we have many missions, to start with, we have the mission of GSLV launching the NVS 02 in the month of January.” These missions, set to launch in the new year, further solidify India’s growing leadership in space technology.
The PSLV-C60 mission, with 24 diverse payloads, also represents the growing collaboration between ISRO and academia, startups, and private entities. The 24 payloads include contributions from both ISRO and external partners, further enhancing India’s role in global space research.
As ISRO continues to make strides in space exploration, the SpaDeX mission represents just the beginning of India’s journey beyond the skies, with missions like Gaganyaan and Bharatiya Antriksha Station in the pipeline.
