Odisha Vigilance Nabs PEO, Husband While Taking Bribe In Bargarh

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday nabbed a Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) and her husband for allegedly accepting Rs 5,000 bribe in Padampur area of Bargarh district.
The accused were identified as Nupur Seth, PEO of Gyan Gram Panchayat, and her husband Bed Prakash Biswal, a private person.
Vigilance said the two were apprehended while demanding and taking bribe Rs 5,000 to shortlist an eligible person as a beneficiary under PMAY Scheme. The accused PEO kept demanding bribe Rs 10,000/- for the work. The complainant, being a poor person, was not able to pay Rs 10,000. On negotiation, the accused PEO reduced the bribe amount to Rs 5,000.
Left with no option, the complainant reported the matter to Vigilance authorities, narrating his harassment. Following this, a team of Vigilance nabbed accused Seth after she obtained bribe of Rs 5000/- through her husband Bed Prakash Biswal, from the complainant.
Both the accused persons have been detained. The entire bribe money Rs.5000/- has been recovered from their possession and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations of the PEO from Disproportionate Assets angle.
In this connection, a case has been registered and investigation is in progress.
