Delhi Assembly Elections 2025: Delhi Police Files Over 500 MCC Violations Cases

In the lead-up to Delhi’s assembly elections, authorities have registered over 500 cases of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violations.

This surge in cases reflects heightened vigilance by the Delhi Police. Between January 7 and January 22, a total of 17,879 individuals were detained under various laws, including the Excise Act.

The police have been particularly active at border checkpoints, aiming to curb illegal activities such as smuggling. Their efforts have resulted in the confiscation of 270 illegal firearms and 372 cartridges. Additionally, they seized more than 44,000 litres of liquor valued at over Rs 1.3 crore.

Seizures and Arrests

Significant quantities of drugs and cash were also seized during this period. The police confiscated 110.53 kg of drugs worth over Rs 20 crore and more than 1,200 banned injections. Furthermore, Rs 4.56 crore in cash and 37.39 kg of silver were recovered.

The intensified crackdown on illegal activities is part of a broader effort to ensure fair elections in Delhi. The upcoming polls will see all 70 assembly seats contested on February 5, with vote counting scheduled for February 8.

An official statement highlighted these efforts, noting that the model code came into effect on January 7. Since then, law enforcement agencies have been working diligently to maintain order and prevent any disruptions during the election period.

This proactive approach by the Delhi Police underscores their commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral process. By targeting illegal arms, liquor, and drug smuggling operations, they aim to create a secure environment for voters.
