NTPC Talcher Thermal Reinforces Safety Preparedness with Full-Scale Mock Drill –

Talcher – 31/12 – NTPC Talcher Thermal Power Project places the highest priority on safety and preparedness, ensuring the well-being of its employees, stakeholders, and the surrounding community. As part of this commitment, a full-scale mock drill was conducted today at NTPC Talcher Thermal Power Project.

This was a joint exercise encompassing both the Disaster Management Plan and the Crisis Management Plan. The mock drill simulated two critical scenarios: (a) sabotage in the central store and (b) fire and explosion near the central store. The drill was monitored through drone surveillance, and an Emergency Control Centre was established to oversee the activities via CCTV monitoring, ensuring real-time assessment and coordination. The exercise was conducted satisfactorily, with active participation from Mutual Aid Scheme members, including NTPC Talcher Super Thermal, NALCO, Heavy Water Board, and Talcher Fertilizer Limited, alongside CISF Fire and CISF Security teams of NTPC Talcher Thermal.

Debriefing was held in the presence of the Chief Incident Controller (CIC) – GM (Projects), the Works Incident Controller (WIC) – AGM (EE), the Site Incident Controller, and DC CISF. All designated teams, including the Combat Team, Rescue Team, Auxiliary Team, Quick Response Team, and senior management from BHEL, played crucial roles during the drill. Observers from NALCO, Heavy Water Board, NTPC Talcher Super Thermal, and Talcher Fertilizer Limited shared their observations during the debriefing to identify areas for further improvement.

Dr. J.P. Roy, CIC and GM (Projects), congratulated all team members for successfully executing the mock drill and assured that the observations and suggestions would be incorporated in the subsequent drills to enhance preparedness and response mechanisms.
