Another Conspiracy! Modi-Shah in ‘Action Mode’ on Jammu and Kashmir Issue

With the Maharashtra election approaching, the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) issue has once again ignited political debates. Recently, a resolution was passed in the J&K Assembly, calling for the reinstatement of Article 370. This led Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to launch fierce attacks on the opposition over the issue.

Modi and Shah Stand Firm on the Jammu and Kashmir Issue

In strong language, both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah criticized the opposition in unison over the Jammu and Kashmir issue. On Friday, while campaigning in Dhule, Maharashtra, Prime Minister Modi referenced the ongoing unrest in the J&K Assembly, saying, “The Congress-NC has started to show its true colors as soon as it got a chance to form a government in Jammu and Kashmir. They want to deceive the people of the Valley. But the entire nation has understood their conspiracy.”

Drawing attention to the posters and banners displayed within the J&K Assembly in protest against the abrogation of Article 370, the Prime Minister asked, “Will the people accept this?” Later, Amit Shah echoed Modi’s sentiments, placing the opposition under scrutiny. The Home Minister accused, “The entire nation is ashamed of what happened in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. But don’t worry; even four generations of the opposition won’t be able to bring back Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP government won’t let that happen.”

It is noteworthy that five years ago, on August 5, 2019, the central government abrogated Article 370. However, unrest has recently flared up in the Assembly since the government formation in Jammu and Kashmir, reigniting tensions on this issue. The new session of the J&K Assembly began on November 4, six years after the previous one.

On the first day of the session, PDP legislator from Pulwama brought a resolution calling for the reinstatement of Article 370. Then, on Thursday, as the session resumed, Khurshid Ahmed Sheikh, the brother of Baramulla MP and Awami Ittihad Party leader Engineer Rashid, entered the J&K Assembly with banners demanding the reinstatement of Article 370 and the release of political prisoners.

The banners clearly stated two demands: first, to bring back Article 370, and second, to release political prisoners. When Khurshid Ahmed Sheikh displayed the banners, opposition leader Sunil Sharma from the J&K Assembly reacted aggressively. BJP representatives strongly opposed the banners, leading to a heated argument and eventually escalating to physical altercations. According to ANI, some BJP legislators reportedly clashed with Khurshid Alam and other members of the Treasury benches. Eventually, the Speaker had to adjourn the session.
